Laikipia County Improving Working Conditions Of Shoe Shiners

County Government of Laikipia through Department of Trade, Tourism and Co-operative Development is setting up shoe shine shades in specific locations in Nanyuki, Nyahururu, and Rumuruti town.

The project will offer much needed decent and conducive environment for shoe shiners to perform their work.

For the longest time, they have been operating under scorching sun and usually close their businesses during rainy season.

The shades will enable them operate in an organized manner and during all weather conditions.

In Nanyuki, two shades are being erected opposite Emess hotel with one more expected to be set up at Nanyuki main stage.

In Nyahururu town, two shades will be set up with Rumururti town also getting two shades.

Each shade will accommodate four shoe shiners.

The shoe shinners have lauded the move saying it will greatly improve their working conditions and increase their income.

Laikipia County Deputy Governor Reuben Kamuri said the initiative is one of the many which the Governor Joshua Irungu administration has lined up for the improvement and raising standards of living and working for different sectors’ players.
