Laikipia County Governor Joshua Irungu yesterday hosted a delegation from the British Army Training Unit in Kenya (BATUK) who he commended for various development initiatives in the area.
The governor who was accompanied by among others his deputy Reuben Kamuri and County Secretary, Koinange Wahome said the BATUK has continued to positively impact on the local people for their continuous development interventions across county.
“The discussions majorly revolved around water resource management; community engagement; job creation to locals; promotion of investments in agriculture; energy and Infrastructure and drought mitigation – short and midterm mitigation,” the governor said after the consultative meeting at his Nanyuki office.
The governor further observed, “For accelerated partnership efforts by County Government of Laikipia is in appreciation that for government to cover more grounds in terms of development, Exchequer funds and Own Source Revenue can never be enough, hence, scouting for alternative project financing avenues and partners becomes paramount”.
He added, “It does not matter who is doing something good for Laikipia people, or who is taking the credit. What I am interested in is ensuring Laikipia people benefit from as much development interventions, as possible.”
Also in the meeting were Leah Njeri who is the CECM in charge of Water, John Wambugu who is the Chief of Staff and Abraham Lemanyishoe who is the Chief Officer in charge of Water.
