A Member of parliamentary Security and National Administration committee Mburu Kahangara has assured Kenyans that the national assembly will ensure justice has been done to the facemask seller Boniface Kariuki who was shot by a police officer during protests in Nairobi on Tuesday.
He described the incident as unfortunate, saying the officer acted recklessly.
The Lari constituency MP urged members of the public not to condemn all police officers, saying it was only one officer who broke the law and shot an innocent person.
“Even in our villages, we have a few youths who keep stealing our chicken or anything else. It is not all youths. We cannot condemn all young people when chicken are stolen, this is just like that case” he said.
He warned that the national assembly too, just like other institutions which were checking on the security, was keen on ensuring that laws regarding the national security and administration were observed.
The MP spoke at Gituamba primary school in his constituency during the institution’s 70 celebrations for its existence.
Kahangara urged the teachers and parents to keep advising their children on how to conduct themselves during the protests so as to curb deaths, injuries and other eventualities.
“Cases of injuries and deaths are reported whenever there are protests. Even if we have a right to protests and picket, we need to advise and speak to our youthful children. We do not want to lose them since parents have invested a lot to educate them and keep them satisfied” he advised.
