- Some business people have been taking advantage of increase in food prices to over charge their customers. They have been setting very high prices which some of the consumers cannot even afford due to lack of jobs making it difficult to get money to buy goods to sustain their lives.
- Due to the fact that majority of people lost their jobs during the Covid-19 pandemic, they have not yet recovered their lost jobs, prices of food in the country should be lowered. People are heading towards a period where there is a rise in political tension, whereby politicians are busy holding their rallies and campaigning, prices of food should be lowered to ensure there are no cases of hunger.
Majority of Kenyans have been complaining of an increase in food prices in the country over the past few months. Celebrities, musicians and entire members of the country have been on the forefront in addressing this issue on various social media platforms.
They have been pressing the government to Lower the prices of food and even fuel prices. A good example is the price of refilling gas cylinders which has increased excessively leaving people despair.
The term”#lowerfoodprices” has been a trending topic on various social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp , Facebook and Tiktok where people have been giving their views and opinions regarding a matter of food security in the country.
According to statistics and research done by Kenya national bureau of standards says, there is an increase in the prices of food such as sifted maize flour, bread, vegetables among many foodstuffs. This has been affecting both consumers and producers. This in turn leads to a big blow in the agricultural sector and the country’s economy at large.

Research and analysis done by KEBS revealed that there is an increase in the inflation rate in the country causing an increase in food prices. The government should try as much as possible to address these issues. People are suffering in the country, their voices should be heard and issues affecting them addressed with immediate effect.
Those who are jobless should shift to agricultural practices to help them earn a living. The government should also make changes in the agricultural sector to ensure that it is productive and can help solve the problem of food insecurity in the country.
The government can also ask for help from outside world country in order to help solve the problem in increase in food prices. They can also offer to help poor families with relief food for them to overcome hunger.
