Mathira constituency Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi has supported the move by Office of Public Prosecution to withdraw a corruption case against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
WaMumbi said the case against his predecessor in Mathira was politically motivated and only meant to punish those who were perceived to be against them.
Speaking in Karatina town, the lawmaker wondered how the DCI came up with claims of the Deputy President having misused about Sh700 million, being NG-CDF fund for Mathira constituency which in real sense received about Sh500 million in the entire 5 year term.
Noting that while serving as an MP he rehabilitated dozens of public primary schools, constructed security offices and issued bursaries, Wamumbi questioned how it was possible to undertake such projects and at the same time misuse the funds.
The MP said the new administration had no plans of interfering with the working of the other arms but was only interested in enabling them effectively serve the Kenyans.
He at the same time supported the move by the Executive to work together with other arms of the government saying they were all enablers of each other and were delivering to the same Kenyan citizens.
He said criticism by ODM leader Raila Odinga was misplaced and should be treated with contempt.
At the same time, Nyeri County United Democratic Alliance supporter Wanyaga Gathaka supported the Mathira MP’s sentiments adding that since the investigators revealed that they were under pressure from former DCI boss George Kinoti, he should also tell Kenyans under whose instructions he was working.
Wanyaga, a former Nyeri mayor said Kinoti should be prosecuted for intimidating, harassing and illegally prosecuting innocent Kenyans like the current Deputy President.
Speaking at Senior Chief Wambugu Palace near Nyeri town, Wanyaga also hit out at Odinga for his continued criticism on some government dealings saying his action showed he was not in touch with reality.
