A mega coffee stakeholder’s consultative meeting is set to be held next month.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua disclosed that the meeting, to be held in Meru County will among other things, comes up with a lasting solution on the running of the multibillion sub sector.
Speaking at Kahiraini Catholic Church in Mathira constituency, the Deputy President said everyone who is a stakeholder in the sector will take part in the meeting where they will be expected to give the way forward.
The ultimate goal, the Deputy President noted, was to come up with the best way that farmers will benefit.
He said it had taken a while before a solution is found but added that he was optimistic that the Meru meeting, slated for June 6 to 8 will come out with a lasting solution.
He said, the Kenya Kwanza government was out to ensure farmers in different sectors reaped maximum returns for their produce.
At the same time, the Deputy President said talks will be held soon to chart the way forward in containing deaths associated with Cancer.
He noted that many Kenyans were suffering after being diagnosed with the disease which he said was mysterious since in most cases, it was being detected when in Stage IV. To deal with this, he said, both National and County governments will have to come up with ways of procuring machines that are able to detect the disease early.
He spoke as he eulogized Fr Richard Kabuthi Kinyua who was one of the Priests at the Kahiraini church. The priest passed on last Wednesday after being diagnosed with cancer.
The Deputy President noted that apart from diseases, youthful people in the region were dying of illicit brews which he said his government had embarked a crackdown on.
He was accompanied by among others, Nyeri County governor Mutahi Kahiga, MPs Eric Wamumbi, Wambugu Wainaina, John Kaguchia, Duncan Mathenge and EALA’s Kanini Kega.
Others were the chairman of Tana Water Works Development Agency Wanyaga Gathaka and CAS for Agriculture Daniel Wamahiu.
After the Mass where more than 10 priests led in celebrating the life of the late Kabuthi, Gachagua visited the deceased’s family at Kanjuri village to console them.
Later, he visited the family of Lucy Gathigia at Giakaibei village following the death of her daughter Jane Wambui. The deceased is a sister to Martha Miano who works in the Deputy President’s Communications department.
Others who attended the Kahiraini Mass were Nyeri businessman cum politician Dr Thuo Mathenge who is also the TND party national chairman which he used to run for the Nyeri gubernatorial seat. Gachagua asked him to join him, insuniating that if he does, he might support his bid since the current governor Mutahi Kahiga will not be contesting.
