The New Meru deputy governor Linda Kiome was yesterday sworn in a ceremony witnessed by scores of people.
The Deputy Governor was nominated by Meru governor Mutuma M’eithingia and also approved by the Meru County Assembly.
High Court judge, Justice Stephen Githinji administered the oath on Friday.
Linda becomes the fourth Meru deputy governor and the first woman deputy governor in the area.
The event was attended by leaders who included Meru governor Mutuma M’eithingia, MPs Mugambi Rindikiri (Buuri) and Moses Kirima Central Imenti).
While thanking the governor for the appointment, the new DG said, “We are deeply moved by what you have shown for supporting women leadership.”
She added that the county has endured a turbulence leadership chapter that caused division and affected vision.
“Leadership is about trust, humility,integrity and unwavering commitment towards people’s welfare and so I promise to have all that,” Kiome said.
She said her leadership will be guided by the bible and the constitution of Kenya.
Kiome promised to use all she can to uphold human rights and dignity of the people of Meru.
She assured Mutuma that she will be royal and hardworking.
She added that they will reject politics of divisions and intolerance and instead embrace collegiality and respect for the rule of law as the foundation of their governance.
She said she will prioritize youth and women as she seems to have gender mainstream in in every development project.
“Youth and women will not only be beneficiaries of development but will work hand in hand with them to ensure they are part of our leadership,” she added.
She promised to elevate the voice of the county boss and ensure that no residents would be left behind.
Meru governor Mutuma M’ethingia promised that he would not torment her deputy, remembering how he had faced a hard time when serving under former governor Kawira Mwangaza.
