The Ministry of Energy will install an LPG cooking gas at Kanjuri Boys High School in Mathira constituency.
Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira revealed that the Ministry will install the gas system which will help save energy and prevent the use of firewood in the school.
The school Chief Principal Paul Gachoka had earlier complained that the school uses about KSh800,000 in both use of firewood and electricity and so there was a need for urgent intervention.
This will help conserve the environment and save the cutting down of trees.
The Chief Principal also said there was a need for a solar project in the institution to cut down the cost of electricity.
The PS also noted that there was a dire need for a new dinning hall as the current one is worn out and promised to mobilize resources once a harambee is organised.
The PS revealed that the upgrading of the school kitchen to LPG will be undertaken through the Ministry’s LPG for schools project supported by the State Department for Energy ,JICA & UNDP.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga who was the Chief Guest promised to ensure a masonry tank is constructed in the area to help in distribution of water.
The two who were speaking during the Prize Giving Day of the school dished out Kshs. 400,000 for a school bash involving over 1,500 students and teachers.
The duo also mentored the students as education is the most powerful weapon to change and transform the world and equipping young minds is vital.
Started in 1963, the school has continuously recorded a streak of stellar performance over the years thus placing it among the best extra county boys high schools and one of the academic giant in the region.
Kahiga also urged the parents and teachers to do their best in uplifting the skills of the students while at the same time harnessing the requisite skills.
