Misinterpretation of Political Power has Cultivated Greed of occupying Political Seats

The act of misinterpreting political power in Kenya has made a significant number of people vie for political positions. As the clocks tick down to the August 9 general election, an exponential rise of people declaring their interest to vie for different elective seats is observed. Notably, some of these people are leaving their promising careers in the line of venturing into politics.
On Tuesday 8th, the Kenyan Court of Appeal had ruled that any public officer eying for the forthcoming general election have until February 9 to resign. The Kenyan electoral agency indeed requires all the civil servants who have an interest in vying political seats to leave the office six months before the date of the general election. Stunningly, what we observed on yesterday is a dramatic exodus of workers.
Besides public servants, several well-known celebrities have also shared their interests to vie for various political seats. This gives us a clearer view that the bar for political leadership in Kenya has been lowered to the extent that many people want to become leaders. It is worth noting that venturing into politics is not a crime; the sad thing is that some people vie for these political seats due to Greed with a desire for wealth, possessions, power, status, and security. The misinterpretation of power has made many people look at the political process as an excellent deal for the money.
Consequently, it is worrisome how people in Kenya have interests in political seats. Yet, some have zero understanding of the Kenyan political system and politics as a whole. Having no knowledge of the political system produces political outcomes that lower welfare. As Kenya prepares for the 2022 general election, we need to rethink and question where these leaders have acquired sophistication in leadership skills, which is vital to developing the nation.
Rise to political power should be driven by ambitions of serving people. Kenyans want who will make the state to be ambitious. Kenyans are hardworking people; hence they need to be served by leaders who match people’s ambitions but not leaders who exploit their power for their private interest.
