A section of leaders drawn from Mt Kenya have emphasized on the nees for the local leaders to unite and support Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s leadership so that the region can benefit from President William Ruto’s government.
Speaking to the media Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) Board Chairman a former Mathira MP Peter Weru said that the region’s key interests will only be addressed if they are championed for by united leaders.
He said some of leaders from the region have concentrated on fighting each other and that could deny the central community development from the government.
“I want to emphasize that we must unite as leaders from this great region. It is only when we are united that we will be able to address and push for the interests that are common to our people. We must come together as leaders so that our people can tap the benefits of being in government,” the former Mathira MP said.
He called on the community to support Mr Gachagua’s efforts of spearheading various key reforms in the agricultural sector.
“The moment we start fighting and allowing other people to create splits among our leaders, then we will lose focus in addressing what is very important for our people. The DP Gachagua has been on the forefront in addressing our interests. Let us all be fully behind him and we should not lose focus,” the Mr Weru said.
Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga said unity among the leaders will boost their strength of lobbying for more development.
“We are grateful that such fights are not being witnessed here in Nyeri. That is why we are telling our colleagues in other counties of Mt Kenya to agree to come together and cease those fights. Let us have that common bargaining power so as to bring more development to our people,” Mr Wamatinga said.
The leader spoke in Nyeri Town constituency during the commemoration of 71 years since the death of Senior Chief Nderi Wang’ombe. Mr Wang’ombe was killed by Mau Mau on October 22, 1952.
The celebrations were led by Gender and Affirmative Action PS Ann Wang’ombe and her close family members.
