Kenyans are increasingly becoming more and more aware of the activities of their government as they now also understand the workings of Principal Secretaries and the weight they carry in the ministries they supervise.
A new survey by Politrack Africa, an acclaimed pollster, has pointed out the performance of Principal Secretaries for the last two and a half years of the President William Ruto administration.
According to the survey, there is a blend of top performers, representing different departments across government, a change from what has been presented in the past.
Five out of the top 10 PSs come from Mt. Kenya region, ranking highly amongst their peers from other regions.

Public Health and Professional Standards PS Mary Muthoni comes in the second position to PS Wachira.
Across the country, PS Mary Muthoni is credited with having enhanced communication at the Ministry of Health, especially on topical issues and emerging issues, including the Social Health Insurance.

Most respondents in the Mt. Kenya region said she had become synonymous with effectively educating the people on the benefits of SHA, thus shoring up the numbers of those registered. She had an approval rating of 76.2%
Others taking the lead in the mountain region includes Mining PS Elijah Mwangi, who comes in third with an approval rating of 76%.
Roads PS Joseph Mungai comes in 4th with an approval of 73.4%, showcasing people’s confidence in his workings in the roads sector.
PS Ephantus Kimotho of Irrigation takes the 6th position with a 70.1% approval.
Most of the top performers from Mt. Kenya have also kept away from the political landscape, showing prowess in their different sectors.

According to Kenyans, the top bureaucrats could be retained to oversee the implementation of the Kenya Kwanza manifesto.
“PSs from the Mt. Kenya region have been consistent. Looking at the polls we have released of late, have shown their working, but we have also seen a shift with others catching up,” said Emmanuel Kutosi, who is Politrack Africa lead data analyst.
However, noting that Principal Secretaries carried the burden of ministries and do the accounting at the different positions they hold, there is guarded optimism across Kenyans on their impending reshuffle, with 41.8% of Kenyans approving of changes while 33.7% did not agree. 24.5% are not sure on whether the president should effect changes to the principal secretaries or not.
The report has also pointed out that a majority of Kenyans are still sceptical about President Ruto’s move to form a broad-based government.

In the survey released on Friday, 41.3% of Kenyans do not support the decision to form the broad-based government, while 36.7% approve of the decision. 22% are yet to get a position, 7 months into the coming together of the new found relationship between President Ruto and opposition supremo Raila Odinga.
There are varied responses on whether the broad – based government will prioritize delivery of services to Kenyans, with 22.1% optimistic of tangible results, while 21.3% believe it is highly unlikely that there will be keen interest on what mwananchi wants.
In the poll that captured views from 1068 respondents, aged 18 years and above, through a telephone interview, majority also want those above 60 years not included in Government, insisting it was time for fresh ideas that would push Kenya’s agenda on the international map
