Mwea rice farmers to support Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri for Governor seat

Kirinyaga County Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri yesterday held a consultative meeting with over 3,000 rice farmers drawn from Mwea constituency.
The eventful meeting held at Ngurabani town saw the farmers vow to mobilize their colleagues and residents eking living in other sectors rally behind Ndambiri in his quest to be the third Governor.
Farmers highlighted various issue which they told the Deputy Governor that were pressing them which include a recent proposal by the Water Resources Management (WARMA) to increase a fee from the current Sh3,000 per acre to Sh15,000 per acre.
This proposal, Ndambiri told the farmers will not wait for his inauguration as the next governor to be opposed but he would make sure he immediately petition the organisation to shelve such plans.
“I will not allow that to happen. I will not accept WARMA to exploit you,” he told the farmers.
In raising concern over the proposal, the farmers told the Governor aspirant that they were ambushed by the organization with the increase requirement since they was no Public Participation over the matter as required by law.
Another issue raised by the farmers was the availability of subsidised fertilizer which the Deputy Governor promised to ensure was availed to them.
Through what they termed as Mwea Declaration, the farmers resolved that the Kirinyaga County governor will come from Mwea in the name of Peter Ndambiri
