Students from Othaya constituency who are secondary, tertiary and university institutions and have challenges in settling fees will benefit from a Sh42 million kitty.
The money, set aside by the area Nation Government, Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) will benefit thousands of the students who applied for assistance, local Member of Parliament Gichuki Mugambi disclosed.
The disbursement started yesterday for the beneficiaries from Chinga Ward and is expected to end on Thursday after the team visit the other three wards; Karima, Iriaini and Mahiga.
The Sh42 million is the highest amount disbursed in a single year.
The NG-CDF team which is chaired by Dr Muthoga Ngera has since assuming office after the 2017 General Election been increasing the bursary allocation in order to cater for the ever rising number of bright and needy students.
The previous team which had its highest allocation at about Sh15 million.
Unlike previously when vetting and allocation was done at constituency level, Dr Muthoga’s team does it at sub-location level so as to make the process as transparent as possible.
Yesterday, the area MP who presided over the ceremony at Munene Kairu Memorial Hall in Chinga Ward hailed the team for carrying out the exercise diligently.
