Judy King’ori Wangui and Zipporah Njeri Maina were yesterday arraigned before the Nyeri Chief Magistrate’s Court facing charges of unlawful procession, theft of goods worth KSh130 million from Naivas Supermarket and malicious damage to property at Nyeri Police Station and DCI offices. After denying the charges, they were released on KSh70,000 bail or KSh200,000 bond. Case to be mentioned on July 23.

The Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Ms. Mary Muthoni yesterday held a strategic engagement with AMREF Health Africa, led by Kenya Country Director Dr. Meshack Ndirangu, to review ongoing areas of collaboration with the Ministry of Health. The meeting focused on accelerating the establishment and operationalisation of Primary Care Networks (PCNs) as part of efforts to strengthen Primary Health Care and ensure communities across Kenya can access equitable, quality health services close to home. Discussions also covered joint action on critical public health priorities, including tackling the health effects of climate change, advancing malaria control, and stepping up the fight against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). The team further emphasised the central role of effective communication and thought leadership in shaping health-seeking behaviours and building more resilient health systems. Progress under the Epuka Uchafu Initiative—a community-driven campaign promoting environmental health and disease prevention—was reviewed, with a renewed call for intensified community-led sanitation efforts.

Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Barasa yesterday hosted a delegation from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), led by Dr. Abdi Fidar, Director of the IGAD Climate Prediction and Application Centre (ICPAC).
The meeting aimed to explore and identify potential areas of partnership between the Government of Kenya particularly the Ministry and the IGAD Centre of Excellence for Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Protection (CAEP). She emphasized Kenya’s commitment to strengthening ties with IGAD, highlighting key areas for potential collaboration. Among the strategic priorities discussed were; deepening understanding of IGAD CAEP’s mandate and operations, aligning Kenya’s climate priorities with IGAD CAEP’s strategic focus areas, identifying joint initiatives in climate adaptation and environmental protection.
Dr. Abdi Fidar proposed the establishment of a regional environmental program involving Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia. He noted that such a collaboration could serve as a platform for jointly mobilizing funding for climate adaptation and environmental protection.
Environment Secretary, Dr. Selly Kimosop welcomed the proposal and underscored the importance of resource mobilization for regional environmental initiatives. She outlined key focus areas for collaboration, including biodiversity conservation, renewable energy, and building climate resilience. Additionally, she called for support in greening schools through initiatives such as the establishment of tree nurseries, provision of water tanks, and planting of drought-resistant trees. Also present were Mr. Abdikarim Mohamed, Coordinator of the IGAD Security Sector Program; Dr. Ahmed Amdelev, Director for Disaster Risk Reduction at IGAD; and Forest Development Secretary Mr. George Tarus, and Director Environmental Policy and Regulations, Ms. Kirumba Mary Wangare from the Ministry.

Principal Secretary for the State Department for Livestock Jonathan Mueke has announced that the government will provide subsidised genetics to improve local livestock breeds in Siaya County.
Speaking during a one-day tour to commission projects under the Kenya Livestock Commercialisation Project (KeLCOP), Mueke also revealed plans to partner with county governments to roll out national livestock vaccination campaigns to boost animal health and enhance trade. He urged Siaya residents to embrace the initiatives to improve their breeds and tap into wider markets.

Their discussions centred on enhancing collaboration between the Government of the United States and Kenya, with emphasis on strengthening democratic governance, expanding trade partnerships, and fostering shared values, for the mutual benefit of the two friendly nations. Kenya and the United States continue to enjoy warm and longstanding bilateral relations, rooted in mutual respect and cooperation.
