Kisumu County releases the second county statistical abstract. The Abstract is a comprehensive compilation of demographic, social, economic, governance, and environment statistics for the county. Deputy Governor Mathew Owili emphasised the importance of accurate and comprehensive statistics in making informed development decisions at the county level. He stated that data is not just a tool but the backbone of informed decision-making and effective governance. The publication will be a cornerstone for how the county will plan, execute, and evaluate its progress as a county.
The Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project (KISIP) has conducted an induction and training programme for the Settlement Executive Committee (SEC) and the Grievance Redress Committee (GRC) to combat gender-based violence (GBV). The two committees are trained to oversee development projects and advocate for the needs of communities in informal settlements. The training, held in Thika Municipality, focused on two settlements, Umoja and Kiang’ombe, highlighting progress in community involvement in project monitoring and addressing grievances. According to the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), an estimated 736 million women globally are exposed to gender-based violence (GBV) at least once in their lifetime.
The Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) has launched an initiative to expand communication infrastructure in West Pokot County, aiming to improve interaction, peace, and security in unstable regions. The initiative, part of a government strategy, focuses on improving cellular mobile network coverage in the region, particularly in areas that require significant improvements. “We visited the region to ascertain the level of connectivity in all the sublocations on mobile connectivity, broad-pan, and television connectivity,” he said. The Authority operates a Universal Service Advisory Council responsible for managing the universal service fund allocated by the government to support the connectivity of unserved and underserved populations with mobile network services for radio, television, and mobile phones in West Pokot County.

Nandi Central Deputy County Commissioner Alfet Hudulu has urged residents in Nandi County to utilise government resources to advance their education dreams. Hudulu emphasised the importance of education in the current information age, as it is necessary for operating tech machines and gadgets like smartphones. The Kenyan government is committed to reducing the number of people without basic education by 2030.
Turkana’s County Department of Health and Sanitation has developed an emergency preparedness and response plan to address the potential MPOX outbreak. The plan, which was unveiled during an Mpox sensitisation meeting, was supported by Core Group Partners’ Project through the International Rescue Committee. The County Health Executive, Longole Wangoris, said the county plans to establish an emergency operations centre and engage with relevant stakeholders, including the water and tourism sectors, for support in surveillance and public sensitisation. He added that it will include the need for personal protective equipment (PPE) and borrowing from previous COVID-19 plans.
