John Morijoi, a bee farmer in Loita, Narok South Sub County, has been making a fortune for eight years. Bee farming has helped him sustain his family, educate his children, and pass knowledge on to other farmers. He has registered his company, Loita Acacia Honey Limited, and offers bee hive installation services. Morijoi seeks training and beehive donations from the County Government Department of Agriculture.
The Kenyan government has committed to transferring all remaining devolved functions to counties in line with constitutional requirements. Cabinet Secretary Simon Kiprono Chelugui announced that all pending functions in his Ministry will be handed over to counties by the end of February, as directed by President William Ruto. The three-week consultation meeting between the Ministry and the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC) aims to promote cooperative decision-making and ensure that policies and activities across all spheres, especially the transfer of functions to devolved units, do not hurt service delivery or meet the needs of citizens effectively. The CS noted that the Cooperatives and Micro and Small Enterprise Co-operatives are key to the government’s Bottom-Up Transformation Agenda (BETA), with the Savings and Credit Societies contributing 30% of the country’s savings.
Kenya’s government plans to introduce the ‘Uzalendo Initiative’ to promote nationhood and patriotism. The initiative aims to encourage Kenyans to love their country and give their best. The government’s commitment to efficiency and excellence is evident in its performance and service delivery roadshow, which assesses the performance of various ministries, departments, and agencies. The Social Health Insurance Fund is a step towards a more inclusive and accessible healthcare system, with a 40% reduction in monthly contributions for 54% of Kenyan hustlers. The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) Act has been repealed, creating a lacuna for those without insurance. The initiative will also ensure fairness by introducing a modest 2.2 upward adjustment for 46% of contributors.
In her bid for keeping track of water projects in her Embu County, Governor Cecily Mbarire yesterday hosted officials from Tana Water Works Development Agency led by Chief Executive Officer Eng. Philip Gichuki who briefed him on various initiatives being undertaken.
The two, alongside their officers held discussions on completed, On-going and Planned Water and Sanitation projects in the county.
There are nine complete projects serving 190 households, four learning institutions, one Health Institution and one stadium:
At the same time, there are 17 ongoing projects across the county which will serve 410 households, eight learning institutions, and five Health institutions.
Meanwhile, there are 22 planned projects including 11 water and sanitation projects; eight dams and three water pans across the county to be implemented in the short and long terms in partnership with the National Government and Development partners.
During the meeting, they agreed to work closely together to ensure that they undergo all processes required and comply with requirements of development partners to enable the people of Embu County benefit from all the planned projects.
The New Democrats (TND) political party is being rebranded. Party’s National Chairman Dr Thuo Mathenge is today expected to host top party leadership from across the country at his Bantu Africa Resort and SPA near Nyeri town. Sources said the meeting is among other things, set to lay strategies of, among other things, fronting the party as the best political outfit for the mountain region, come the next General Election. The move by Dr Mathenge comes as cracks continue to emerge among UDA leadership in the region with some MPs averring that they could have gone to the election with a regionally supported political party like their colleagues in other parts of the country.
