Over 25,000 participants have registered for the 2024 Standard Chartered Marathon, marking the highest record in registration, according to Peter Gitau, chairperson of the Nairobi Marathon Local Organising Committee. Scheduled for this Sunday, the marathon will feature various categories, including a 42km run, a 21km wheelchair race, and a 5km family run. Gitau assured that the route will include designated areas for spectators, pacers, and water mists to enhance the experience. He emphasized that adequate hydration would be provided with sufficient water, electrolytes, and fruits available. The prize money has increased significantly, with the 42km prize rising from Sh750,000 to Sh1 million for both men and women, totalling Sh12,900,000 in the prize kitty. Standard Chartered Head of Corporate Affairs and Brand Marketing, Ms. Joyce Kibe, revealed that they have managed to register 300,000 participants in the marathon since the onset of the Nairobi Marathon.
The construction of the second phase of the multi – billion shilling Lower Nzoia Irrigation project is set to kick off soon following the completion of the phase one, principal secretary for irrigation, Ephantus Kimotho has said. According to the PS, phase two of the project, whose construction will take eight months, will see 7,500 acres of land put under irrigation. “This is a very impactful project that will help the country address rice deficit,” said the principal secretary who led a team of Ministry of Irrigation and the National Irrigation Authority officials on a tour of the project. He was flanked by Budalang’i member of parliament, Raphael Wanjala.

Speaking at the 10th graduation ceremony of the Kenya Red Cross Training Institute (KRCTI), where 186 graduates qualified in the fields of paramedicine, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Community Health Assistance,the PS highlighted the essential role these professionals play. She noted how their expertise is vital to building a stronger health workforce and improving primary health care access across Kenya. PS Muthoni also underscored the government’s commitment to fostering a robust career path for EMS professionals, announcing plans to create a Scheme of Service and a governing body to uphold standards and support career progression.
