The Uwezo Fund Director, Ms. Wanjiku Muhato, has lauded North Imenti Constituency for achieving the highest Fund repayment rate in the country at 89.6 per cent. Speaking during a cheque issuance event at the constituency headquarters in Meru town, Ms. Muhato commended the effective utilisation and repayment culture among beneficiary groups. She praised the leadership of area MP Rahim Dawood for his continued support and encouragement, noting that North Imenti has become a model for the impact of the Uwezo Fund. Ms. Muhato revealed that some groups had already received the maximum Sh500,000 loan and are pushing for the limit to be raised to Sh1 million. She noted ongoing consultations on a possible revision of the ceiling. However, she expressed concern that only nine groups representing people with disabilities have received over Sh1 million in total, urging more inclusive participation going forward.

The government and private sector under the Kenya Leadership Integrity Forum (KLIF) have collaborated to develop strategic interventions through the Kenya Integrity Plan (KIP 2023-2028). Following the 56th National Coordinating Committee meeting chaired by Attorney General Dorcas Oduor mid last month, a progressive report was unveiled last Friday in Machakos, recommending the integration of KLIF activities into KIP. The multi-sectoral forum, comprising 20 state and non-state sectors—including civil society, faith-based groups, professional bodies, and government agencies; promotes a unified approach in combating corruption and unethical practices.

The Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Ms. Mary Muthoni over the weekend led a sensitization workshop in Karucho, Kirinyaga County, as part of the Ministry of Health’s ongoing campaign to combat tobacco and drug abuse. In her remarks, the PS emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to collaborate with other stakeholders to end the tobacco and drug abuse that’s bedeviling the country. She called on local leaders to take an active role in protecting communities from the harms of addiction and to support youth-focused prevention efforts.

Prof. Kenneth Wayne Mutuma, who is a member of the institution’s School of Law and Head of Strategic Partnerships at CIDLAW, has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb). Cabinet Secretary for Cooperative and MSME Development, Wycliffe Oparanya, has issued new directives aimed at strengthening governance, transparency, and accountability within the cooperative sector. Oparanya directed all cooperatives that have not filed their annual returns to do so by the end of this month, warning that failure to comply will lead to deregistration from the cooperative register.
