Nine Released on Cash Bail for Participating Anti-Government Demonstration

Nine individuals have been released on cash bail of Ksh 3000 each, along with one surety of the same amount, for their participation in an anti-government demonstration.
The accused individuals were presented before the Kisii Law Court, following their arrest within Kisii Central.
They were charged with unlawful assembly and rioting, which is in violation of section 78(1) of the penal code.
Among those arrested were two county enforcement officers who were mistaken for protesters while carrying out their duties.
Despite their attempts to explain the situation, they were still treated as demonstrators.
The accused individuals were represented by George Morara, Zelmer Bonuke, Omandi, Arati, and Stephen Okemwa. The prosecution did not object to the bail application.
Morara expressed strong condemnation of such actions and hoped for justice to prevail.
He also emphasized the importance of keeping the police force free from politicization and impartial in their actions.
All the accused individuals pleaded not guilty before Chief Magistrate Caroline Ocharo.
The next mention of the case is scheduled for 31st August.
