Nyeri town based Nyamachaki Primary School is undergoing a major and modernised facelift which is aimed at improving the institution’s infrastructure and by extension standards of education.
The school is among the public schools slated for a modern facelift, courtesy of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) for Nyeri Town constituency.
During an inspection tour at school, Nyeri Town MP Duncan Maina Mathenge who is the Fund’s patron announced that despite the school’s small land size of only half an acre, plans are underway to upgrade the institution with a high-rise buildings.
The MP revealed that the project has a budget of Ksh10 million, with Ksh 6 million sourced from the NG-CDF and Ksh 4 million provided by the national government. He noted that due to the current education system, Grade Nine students are expected to be admitted to Senior Secondary schools, due to shortage of classroom space.
“The country is facing economic constraints, which is why we are prudently using the limited funds available. We have introduced a labor-based construction model to maximize the resources we have,” said the MP.
Several other schools in the constituency are undergoing similar rehabilitation, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) MP disclosed.
Meanwhile, on university funding for students, the MP suggested that the government should invest in Social Workers who would conduct door-to-door assessments.
These assessments would focus on the educational lifestyles of students, particularly on how they have struggled with school fees from primary to high school levels. This approach would effectively help the government identify each student’s needs for scholarships
