The Nyeri County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) and Chief Officers (COs) have signed their performance contracts as a sign of their commitment to achieving specific service delivery targets that are verifiable and auditable.
This is in line with the County Government Act. 2012 requirements that the County Government establishes a system of managing and tracking performance.
Governor Mutahi Kahiga and his Deputy David Kinaniri presided over the exercise.
Performance contracting aims to improve efficiency and effectiveness in public service management.
The contracts are also essential in providing a framework for accountability and establishing clear goals and objectives. They are crucial in actualizing development plans and defining the scope of work, and deliverables, while specifying measurable performance indicators and key performance indicators.
The exercise is conducted annually and enables executives track progress on the CIDPs and the ADPs.
Chief Officers besides witnessing the CECMs sign the contracts also signed them in a bid to enhance synergy and stellar performance in the departments.
Directors and other accompanying officers including sub-county administrators, ward administrators, inspectorate in-charges and representatives of the various water companies in Nyeri among others also witnessed the signing
The exercise is conducted yearly to aid in the actualization of development plans, link departmental priorities with the annual budget, track performance effectively, and take action to improve performance. The process involves negotiating, vetting and drafting the annual targets that are guided by County Integrated Development Plans, Vision 2030, SDGs, Annual Development Plans and the allocated budgets.
The Performance Management Unit led by Dr. Nyoike Wamwea spearheaded the exercise.
This year’s theme was, ‘That which is measured, improves, that which is measured and reported with data, improves exponentially.’
The event was also graced by Nyeri County Assembly Speaker Gichuhi Mwangi, a host of MCAs led by the Majority Leader James Kanyugo.
Others were Clement Warutere (Chair Legal & Public Service), Agnes Wachira and Janet Kamiru.
