Nyeri County leadership comprising political, religious and business community yesterday held a breakfast prayer meeting with a call to tolerance during the electioneering period.
The prayer breakfast meeting organized by the Nyeri Ecumenical Bishops Council and held at Nyeri Golf Club in Nyeri town was also attended by national government officials based in the area.
This year’s theme was ‘Committing to Peace and Unity: It Shall be Well with Nyeri County and Nation’.
This initiative was started by the Nyeri Ecumenical Bishops Council eight years ago, with an aim of forging togetherness in prayer and presenting the problems in the region to God.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga appreciated the council led by the Patron Nyeri Catholic Archbishop Rev. Anthony Muheria for their consistency and faithfulness to this prayer breakfast which has brought the people of Nyeri together.
He further expressed his commitment to continue maintaining peace in the county as well as called upon leaders to maintain harmony and remain dedicated to development and service delivery to local wananchi.
In light of this year’s theme, Nyeri leaders and residents were encouraged to embrace peace and unity.
He quoted two Bible verses;
Proverbs 14:34. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.
Genesis 11: 4. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
The event was attended by Othaya MP Gichuki Mugambi, Nyeri County Assembly MCAs led by the Speaker John Kaguchia and Majority Leader James Kanyugo, Bishops Council members led by Chairman Bishop Dr. Paul Wanjohi, Regional Commissioner Representative Mr. Mwangi among other leaders.
