Nyeri National Polytechnic Holds Career And Innovations Open Day

The Nyeri National Polytechnic yesterday held a unique first ever Career and Innovations Open Day at the institution.
At the same time, the institution also jointly held the second sports tournament which involved volleyball and basketball games from seven Secondary Schools and several TVET institutions.
Speaking during the event, the institution’s Chief Principal David Mwangi noted that the event sensitized the local youth on the various courses that they offer and also nurtured talents through sports.
The institution also involved for the first time nine junior teams tournament.
“All this helps in marketing the institution ahead of September intake targeting over 3,000 students. The institution has 7, 500 population and has a capacity of over 11, 000 students. We are encouraging all those who have completed school and are ready for school to join us,” said the Chief Principal.
Nyeri Town MP Duncan Mathenge who graced the occasion noted that TVET institutions are gearing up to the manufacturing industry which impacts positively to the economic growth.
He added that improving the TVET institutions will empower youths to generate their own income and address the joblessness issue in the country.
“Such initiatives will end drug abuse and substance menace. In Nyeri, volleyball will be rejuvenated since traditionally it is known as the best county on this game. We must nurture more talents,” said the MP.
This is the second tournament after the institution held another one few months ago.
The institution, situated less than two kilometres from Nyeri town centre has also opened up a programme where artisans with different talents which they have been practicing can get certified after undergoing an aptitude test.
These include Mechanics, Salonist, Tailors, Plumbers Capentery and Masonary among others.
