The Commission on Administrative Justice (Ombudsma) is in Nyeri with the aim of strengthening accountability, collaboration and climate change issues.
The visit is one among many that the ombudsman team has of late been making in various parts of the country.
Yesterday, part of the team, by Vice Chairperson and Access to Information, Commissioner Dorothy Jemator paid a courtesy visit to Nyeri County Governor, Mutahi Kahiga where they outlined their agenda for the three days they will be around.
The team is expected to hold a series of meetings with various government and non governmental organisations in the area.
The meetings are aimed at enhancing collaboration in developing and implementing effective county-level complaints-handling mechanisms and advancing Access to Information (ATI) laws to bolster transparency and accountability.
To start with, the team held a consultative meeting with the governor who was also accompanied by among others, his Deputy David Kinaniri Waroe.
The discussions centered on resolving public complaints linked to climate action projects in the county, supported by the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action Program, Kenya.
The Commission emphasised the critical role of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in efficiently addressing public grievances, ensuring smoother delivery of public services.
Additionally, the delegation reiterated its commitment to strengthening administrative justice and expanding access to information frameworks at both national and county levels.
Governor Kahiga welcomed the dialogue, reaffirming Nyeri County’s dedication to fostering public trust through improved accountability structures. The meeting was also attended by Commissioner for Complaints, Investigation and Legal Services, Charles Njagua Kanyi.
The team is set to meet with the Nyeri County Assembly fraternity where they are among other things, guide them on how to develop the Access to Information bill.
They are also expected to have consultative meetings with several community based organisations operating in the area.
