Upgrading is ongoing on the Kenya -South Sudan Link Road Programme in West Pokot County.

The project began with the crucial construction of culverts and bridges to ensure proper drainage, accessibility, and the overall functionality of the roadways.

It is an ambitious infrastructure initiative implemented as a joint collaboration between the Government of Kenya and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The road project is part of the broader multinational Kenya -South Sudan Road Corridor Lesseru -Kitale and Morpus-Lokichar Road upgrading project phase 1, which aims to enhance transport connectivity between the two nations.

As a mega road, the Link Road is designed to promote economic growth and regional integration by connecting West Pokot and Turkana Counties to South Sudan.

The programme aims to improve cross-border connectivity, reduce transportation costs, boost trade and commerce, and enhance access to markets and essential resources for local communities and businesses.

It is also expected to stimulate economic activities in the region and is viewed as a strategic infrastructure link that supports broader regional development objectives.

The road will connects to major transport corridors, including the Northern Corridor via the Kitale-Lodwar-Nadapal (AI) Road, and the Kitale-Endebes-Suam-Kapchorwa Corridor.

Ultimately, the Turkana-South Sudan Mega Road is expected to contribute significantly to the regional integration efforts of Kenya, Uganda, and South Sudan, supporting the broader goals of the East African Community (EAC).
