Kisii county gubernatorial Aspirant, Racheal Otundo has quitted the race after her running mate stepped down allegedly compromised by her rival to derail her bid.
Otundo has opted to vie for the County Woman Representative seat through the Progressive Party of Kenya (PPOK) party.
She has been cleared by Kisii county Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer, Samwel Korir to vie for the seat said she was frustrated after and her effort to get another running mate was futile.
According to her some leaders in the Gusii Community are highly patriarchal and they do not want to see any woman ascend to power.
At first Otundo was in United Democratic Alliance party and later decamped to PPOK.
She appealed to her supporters to be calm, adding she will give them a political direction once she kicks off her campaign next week.
“I am the first and the only woman to vie for the governorship seat. The exit of my running mate has not demoralized my hope,” she said.
Otundo said women aspiring for elective seats have resolved to hold joint and peaceful campaigns to ensure that the majority of the women win the seat during the August 9 General Election.
Otundo appealed to women to use their numerical strength and vote for women for elective seats to enable them to exploit their leadership potential.
Those cleared to vie for the Woman Representative seat include- Peris Onsarigo (Jubilee party), Jackline Karani , (DAP-K) Fontina Ngare, Amani National Congress (ANC), Vicky Onderi, (Narc Kenya), Maureen Moraa Obino, Independent, Teresa Bitutu Oroo, United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Lucy Bwari Getoi, Democratic Party of Kenya (DP-K) Julie Nyanchama, Kenya National Congress (KNC), Dorice Aburi alia Donya Wiper Democratic party of Kenya (WIPER), Janet Ong’era, ODM and Getruduh Nyatichi Mogoi.
