A PCEA Church Minister has deplored the pervading culture among Christians of obsession with both sophistication and material things.
PCEA Banana Parish Minister, Rev. Dr. John Calvin Kamau says that instead of craving for material things and sophistication, Christians should instead follow Bible teachings about satisfaction, moderation and contentment.
At the same time, Rev. Kamau has urged the government to put safeguards in place to cushion Kenyans from the high cost of living, arising from exorbitant fuel prices.
The PCEA clergyman regretted that high fuel prices are making the lives of ordinary Kenyans unbearable.
Rev. Kamau spoke at the PCEA Ebenezer church in Ruai, where he presided over a ceremony to formally receive at the Ebenezer church, a long serving elder, Mrs Jane Kamutu who has served Banana Parish in different capacities for over 15 years, and has now transitioned to Ruai East Parish.
Elder Jane has in the past worked as a civic leader at the defunct Nyeri Municipal Council, where she also served as the Audit Committee chairperson.
She is the wife of retired career civil servant, Joseph Kamutu.
The colourful and well attended ceremony was jointly organised by both Banana Parish and Ruai East Parish.
The ceremony was attended by among others, retired Reverends, Lucas Mwaniki and James Njue both of Ruai East Parish.
Also in attendance was the wife of retired church minister, Rev. Prof. Peter Kariuki of St. Andrews in Nairobi, Mrs Leah Kariuki who is a renowned author of christian books.
Other guests included a number of both serving and retired elders and a host of fellow worshippers from both Parishes.
Speaker after speaker at the colourful ceremony praised Elder Kamutu for her dedication, devotion and commitment in her service to God.
They appealed to all church leaders and fellow congregants to emulate her shining example, in their endeavour to have a positive impact on both the spiritual nourishment and growth of fellow Christians.
