TITLE : *PLASTIC IS UBIQUITOUS , THE OCEAN MUST BE A SAFE PLACE.

” The ocean stirs the heart , inspires life and brings eternal joy to the soul. The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it . ”

Plastic is so ubiquitous that it has become an essential component of our daily lives. Globally we produce 242 million tonnes of plastic every year , a large percentage of which enters the ocean when they are disposed of.

Marine life is so tranquil and mesmerising that when we travel to explore new places , under water or over it , a spiritual bliss tend to over power our sensation. Adventures and sports also ar enjoyed here. Photography can help us to understand the precious creatures under water are a boon to our nature. Yet we gather garbage of plastics and dump in oceans , being aware of the fact that plastic is a poison to living beings on earth. Everyday hundreds of animals are dying because plastic poisons or traps them . Even seaweed and coral reefs are being destroyed. There is more plastic than natural prey at the surface of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. A ‘ garbage patch ‘ is an area of the ocean where the plastic build up is so bad , that it can span over 5 million aware miles which equivalent to the area of U.S. and India.

The blue marine life reminds us that we are gifted with a precious paradise on earth.  Since plastic is very cheap it costs lesser than other alternatives like paper and cloth. Also it is very easy to use. Plastic is a non – biodegradable material which cannot be dissolved and renains in the water , hampering the purity. We won’t be left with clean water in the coming years . Therefore, the plastic pollution is affecting the entire earth , including mankind, wildlife , and aquatic life.

The aquatic animals eats the plastic litter , mistaking it as food and eventually die. Innocent animals are thus paying a penance for consuming plastics for death . The soil fertility is depleting and disease carrying insects are collecting in landfills of plastic. Instead of plastic we may use jute bags or cotton bags to help the environment remain clean.  Discarding plastic use with the adoption of  more and more paper and cotton may revive and restore a clean environment. This global addiction for plastic must be replaced with innovative solutions like recycling.
