The late Mzee Githui Karue

A group of former freedom fighters and their descendants from the Pokot community yesterday called on former president Uhuru Kenyatta to fulfill a promise made to them by his father.
The group, led by Nicholas Domokwang Kuku said the founding president Mzee Jomo Kenyatta promised to set up a museum in Kapenguria in honour of former freedom fighters but died without making it.
They spoke at Blue Post hotel, Thika where they had gone to mourn and condole with colleagues following the demise of former freedom fighter Githui Karue who died on Wednesday.
They called on Uhuru Kenyatta to fulfill the promise as a way of honouring the late Karue who was also a Kikuyu community traditionalist.
The team was hosted by a team led by Kikuyu Chief Seer Munyori Kinyenje Muhuri and MMV Associates CLG Director General James Njuguna Mahuria.
The Chief Seer handed over to the Pokot community a Kikuyu traditional walking stick, known as Múthígi as a symbol of appreciation.
Munyori supported their call for fulfilment of the promise saying were it not for the community, Jomo Kenyatta would have been killed by colonialists in Kapenguria but they tipped him and survived.
The two groups paid growing tribute to the late Karue saying he stood for the Kikuyu traditions and was liked by all.
The late Karue is remembered for joining Gen-Z last year when they were protesting against the oppressive Finance bill.
