President William Ruto has challenged the opposition to end the conversation on elections and instead champion the interests of the people.
President Ruto said it was not fair that after elections politicians drag citizens back to issues relating to elections and leaders.
The President said Kenyans made their choice in a democratic process and were eager to see leaders deliver on their mandate.
“We cannot continue talking about leaders, it’s time to talk and plan for development that will transform the lives of the people,” he said.
President Ruto spoke during an Interdenominational prayer service, at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos Town, Machakos County.

Present were Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Cabinet Secretaries Alfred Mutua (Foreign Affairs) and Peninah Malonza (Tourism), Florence Bore (Labour), and Rebeca Miano (EAC and ASALs), Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti and MPs led by majority leader Kimani Ichungwa.
Others were Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), Caleb Mule (Machakos Town), Mwengi Mutuse (Kibwest West), Fabian Muli (Kangundo), Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East), Rachael Nyamai (Kitui South), Mpuru Aburi (Tigania East), Silvanus Osoro (South Mugirango), Florence Jematiah (EALA)Ann Wa Muratha (Kiambu), Simon Kingara (Ruiru), Rahab Mukami (Nyeri), Japheth Nyakundi, (Kitutu Chache North), former Kitui Senator David Musila, and former governors Kivutha Kibwana and Mike Sonko.
Gachagua said the government will serve all Kenyans equally irrespective of their political affiliation.
The Deputy President said the government is committed to lifting Kenyans out of poverty through transformative programs.
He urged Ukambani leaders to work with the government to address challenges facing residents.
“You have no business in the streets running around with cooking pots in your heads,” he said.
Ukambani leaders said they will steer clear of protests and instead engage in gainful economic activities.
Mule and Musyoka said Ukambani leaders have mobilized citizens to utilize subsidized fertilizer and ongoing rains to produce food and eradicate hunger.
Mule said it was only through the production of food that the price of food will go down.
“We will not take part in protests, not because we are cowards, but because we have better things to do,” said Musyoka.
Ndeti asked fellow opposition leaders to shun protests and focus on their duties of checking the government.
She said chaos will have adverse effects on the economy and the livelihoods of the people.
“The kind of politics we want to engage in here is the politics that will help our people,” she said.
Musila said the Ukambani community will work with leaders with a people-centered development agenda.
Kibwana asked the opposition to take part in the bipartisan dialogue diplomatically devoid of threats of violence.
“How can the cost of living go down when there is chaos in the country,” he said.
Ichungwa asked leaders to strive to unite the country for the sake of stability and growth.
At the same time, Mutua said the government will airlift Kenyans out of Sudan amid an emerging crisis in the country.
