President Ruto’s Campaign Of Cleaning Up Nairobi River Is Unstoppable

President William Ruto’s commitment to the rehabilitation of Nairobi river is not in doubt.
Yesterday, he hosted members of Parliament from Nairobi to discuss the progress of this project.
He urged them to shun politics and focus on ensuring the success of this initiative.
This project will change the face and status of the capital city.
Recently, President Ruto appointed the former Starehe MP Margret Wanjiru as the Chairperson of Nairobi River Commission (NRC).
Wanjiru and her team of commissioners attended yesterday’s meeting at State House Nairobi.
The head of state had earlier announced that this project will create 10,000 jobs for the young people.
The efforts to cleanup this river during the era of President Uhuru Kenyatta did not bear much fruits.
Many blamed this on failure by elected political leaders from the city to speak in one voice.
Mike Sonko, who was the governor of Nairobi, was opposed to this project.
Many people believed his position was informed by politics. He had a bone to pick with President Uhuru Kenyatta and so this project provided him with political fodder. Sonko used it to settle political scores with him.
It is worth to recall that the campaign of cleaning this river had started earlier during the reign of President Mwai Kibaki.
At the time, the initiative had been conceived and kicked off by then Environment Minister John Michuki.
Though Michuki was a nonsense and hands-on Minister, his efforts did not bore the fruits.
This is because a number of elected leaders from Nairobi had ganged up against him. They resorted to undermining and stabbing him on the back.
One can therefore understand where President Ruto was coming from yesterday when he urged the city leaders to shun politics. I look forward to see the results. My wish is to elevate Nairobi to the city of East Africa.
The President further noted. It is the wish of every Kenyan to live in a clean environment. So, the success of this initiative will be for the good of Nairobians.
