Politrack Africa, a leading polling and research firm has released the results of its latest survey on Presidency.
The poll titled, “The
Presidency Truth Meter” was conducted across 11 counties early this month.
It sought to gauge public opinion on the current political landscape a ndpotential future scenarios.
The Politrack Africa study offers a comprehensivere gional analysis of Kenya’s current political landscape, focusing on the emerging tension between the President and Deputy Priesdent.
It examines the impact of the potential stalemate on the United Democratic Alliance’s popularity in the Mount Kenya region, while also evaluating the Deputy President’s efforts to consolidate support in this area.
The research delves into the regional dynamics and how they might shift in response to the evolving political situation.
The survey, which employed a random, mul-tistage stratified sampling method proportionate to county population sin line with the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census, involved 2,392 respondents from Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Kirinyaga ,Laikipia, and Nairobi counties .
It revealed that 75 per cent of the respondents were aware of differences within the presidency, with 66 per cent believing these differences would affect the Deputy President.
Of those, 43 per cent predicted a negative national impact, while 35 per cent foresaw positive effects.
On the subject of Mount Kenya region unity, 39 per cent of respondents believed the region was already united.
However, 33 per cent expressed doubt about the Deputy President’s ability to unite the area, while 15 per cent remained optimistic about his chanecs.
The poll also explored the potential impact of a fallout between the President and Deputy President on the UDA party’s popularity, with 53 per cent suggesting it would affect the party’s influence, and 41 per cent believing the party wuold maintain its regional hold .
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, the survey probed potential running mates for President William Ruto in the event of a fallout. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki emerged as the frontrunner, followed by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi .
Notably, 82.7 per cent of respondents indicated that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua would be unlikely to succeed if he ran for president in 2027, with 95.6 per cent stating they would not vote for him.
As for potential challengers to the current president in 2027, Azimio leader Raila Odinga was identified as the most likely candidate to take on the incumbent occupant of the highest office of the land by to 32.6 per cent of respondents, while 26.2 per cent felt it was too early to analyze the next national polls .
