A section of elected leaders in Kisii County have asked residents to embrace peaceful demonstration called by the Azimio la umoja leaders and shun destroying other people’s properties and disrupting their businesses.
Kisii National Member of Parliament, Dorice Donya Aburi and Magenche Ward Representative, Timothy Ogugu have urged security officers not to use excessive force to contain the protesters.
They deplored the Saba Saba protests in Kisii town in which three people were reportedly shot and killed by police officers, terming it unfortunate and unacceptable.
The protesters were demonstrating over high cost of living and controversial Finance Act, 2023
She petitioned human rights and police oversight agencies to take initiative so as to help rein in police brutality.
The Wiper Democratic Party Mp was speaking at Mokomoni area in the Ward, Machoge Borabu constituency where she donated food stuff and clothes to poor residents.
“We had similar protests in other places but nobody was killed. I commend my Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka for holding the protests peacefully” Donya said, adding, she abhors violent protests.

She blamed some elected leaders with factions in the county for inciting youths to cause violence in their supremacy battles and challenged them to stop and address the high cost of living to ease the suffering of residents.
The MP challenged the protesters to shun drinking alcohol and abusing drugs before taking part in the protests, saying they will confuse them and cause chaos.
“We cannot support the supremacy war. There is no need to destroy peoples’ properties in the name of protests” Donya told the press.
She cited that they will ensure that truth and justice prevail, and those responsible for any misconduct to be held accountable.
Donya appealed to the national government administration agencies to always engage in meaningful conversations with peaceful protesters, community leaders, and stakeholders, by listening to their concerns and working together towards viable solutions.
According to her by doing so, they create an environment conducive to sustainable progress and a brighter future for all Kenyans.
Ogugu said the government had signed an agreement with the Saudi government to import fuel to ease the suffering of Kenyans, stressing, the high cost of fuel was hurting the majority of Kenyans.
They urged the government to import maize and give them to millers to mill and sell the flour at subsidized prices.
