The Speaker of the National Assembly, the Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang’ula has met and engaged with staff from the Center for Parliamentary Studies and Training (The CPST) on a range of issues with a particularly focus on the Center’s Training Programmes.
The technical team led by the Executive Director, Professor Nyokabi Kamau highlighted the Centers’ achievements since its inception in 2008 and presented an overview of the upcoming training programmes for Members of Parliament, County Assemblies and staff geared towards equipping clients with the requisite Parliamentary knowledge.
Speaker Wetang’ula lauded the management of the Center for carrying out an important mandate in knowledge sharing and dissemination hence promoting a reading culture in the institution and creating a resource base for Parliamentary training.
During their discussion, the Speaker underscored the importance for more collaborations with like mind institutions both local and international in order to diversify on capacity building programmes for Members and staff of Parliament in a bid to achieve the center’s vision “To be a centre of excellence in Parliamentary studies and governance”.

The CPST has been running online webinars on various topics on matters Parliamentary operations and is set to hold the 3rd Annual Parliamentary symposium scheduled for April this year themed, Effective Public Participation: The Big Question for Legislatures.
The objective of establishing The CPST was to have a one-stop specialized resource centre for the training and capacity development of both the Members and staff of Parliament. It was also established to serve other stakeholders who may be interested in gaining an appreciable understanding of the Parliament and to the Parliaments in the East African Community, the Great Lakes Region and the Continent of Africa at large.
