Nyeri town headquartered Taifa Sacco yesterday opened a state of the art headquarters as parts of its Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Pomp and colour marked the daylong activities that were preceeded by thanks giving service at ACK Church in the Nyeri County headquarters.
Area governor Dr Mutahi Kahiga who described the opening of the new building as a beginning of a new era in the financial institutions that serves hundreds of thousands of farmers, business community as well workers in both public and private sectors.
The Sacco has several branches in among other counties; Laikipia, Kiambu, Nairobi and Nyandarua.
Addressing shareholders, customers and the pubic after opening the iconic building, Dr Kahiga said, “This structure stands as a testament to your growth, resilience, and commitment to delivering exceptional service to your members. The construction of this new head office marks the beginning of a new era,” adding, “This building will serve as a hub of operations and innovation for the Cooperative, reinforcing your mission to provide quality service and support to your members”.
Dr Kahiga noted that Taifa Sacco is an institution that has been instrumental in shaping the socio-economic fabric of Nyeri County, which takes pride in its strong Co-operative movement, currently at over 198 active co-operative societies spanning a membership of over 500,000 and an annual turnover exceeding KSh8 billion.
The co-operative sector is a significant driver of economic growth, employment, and poverty alleviation, he added.
Further, the governor observed that the Cooperative movement is a pillar of his County’s economy, and institutions such Taifa Sacco play a pivotal role in ensuring that mwananchi can access financial services that would otherwise be out of reach.
“The County Government of Nyeri remains committed to fostering an environment where cooperatives can thrive, and will continue to allocate resources to ensure the growth and sustainability of this vital sector,” he quipped.
“As we celebrate the opening of the building in Nyeri town, my administration will continue to create an enabling environment for the investors in the County. This includes improvement of infrastructure like roads, water, and street lights for security, and favourable incentives among others,” he said.
Among the leaders who accompanied by among others, his deputy David Kinaniri, Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina, Trade CECM Diana Kendi and her Education counterpart Margaret Macharia.
The guests were hosted by dozens of Taifa Sacco staff and management led by chairman James Giting’a and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Samuel Ngugi.
Other guests included John Munyiri (Johnny) of Media Council of Kenya, representatives from the banking sector and various saccos and academies.
