Team work the key to success among youths

By: Brian Wamalwa Makondo

In this current generation we have neglected the power that comes from teamwork, in almost all the places of work, social places and any other place that requires people to interact either via internet or physical. Discrimination of teamwork has gone up to a level where we fight against success that comes from teamwork from a particular organisation or group. In clear terms, we don’t want to see people succeeding in what they do.

Every person wants to fight poverty by sustaining a good job. When going for interviews, you will get many people quoting “I am a team worker” This shows how team work is powerful when working.

My principal back then in Kolanya Boys, used to emphasize the need to be a team worker and group discussions .He believed in its power. He would bring many great motivational speakers like Joe Mwangi to just talk on success and team work.

For one to succeed in any particular thing, he needs support positively. Yes, holding ones hand and showing the way in a larger perspective. Looking deep from far, in this current generation, everybody is fighting for himself. So sad to discover such. Everyone be it students, anchors, writers etc. are striving so hard without looking for support, no wonder we take long to succeed in what we do.

As far as team work has been neglected, there is a portion of it still remaining. We have seen friends going for night clubs, discos and entertainment arenas. That’s good but how is it beneficial to any person. Drinking, smoking, dancing and doing all sorts of things should be there If only they bring large positive results compared to negative. Friends should learn to hang out and discuss what is important for them.

The same applies to parents; we have seen parents supporting their children to engage in evil activities like robbery and drug peddling. That’s team work but on a wrong side. Parents should support their children in activities that generate income lawfully. Starting and running legalized businesses that employ more youths is the way to go.

Teamwork can still be enhanced in an indirect way where we have youths employing other youths. It’s clear that for us to fight unemployment, one person should employ at least five people, and among the five, they should strive hard to create employment for again five people, and the cycle continues.

It’s my humble request that for everybody to succeed, we should first have humanity in us, and then learn to serve the public. Giving assistance and asking for assistance where necessary should be the only way to choose. Let’s have that spirit of togetherness and unity. As we all know, unity is strength.
