Tetu MP Geoffrey Wandeto has disbursed Kshs6 Million from Uwezo Funds Kitty to 50 local groups in the area.
The funds will be utilized by the group members to empower themselves and also transform the constituency.
Out of the 50 groups that benefited, 45 were women groups while five were youth groups, while there was not a disability group applying for the funds, the M.P urged the residents to pass the information to those with disability as one way of creating awareness for them also to benefit from the funds,
“I will be happy for the next dissbersment of the funds to have those with desability also with their groups” the MP said.
“The highest group beneficiary took home Kshs.l350,000 and the lowest taking Kshs. 100,000” he noted
The MP also encouraged the group members to ensure they repay back the funds on time so that others can apply and benefit.
He also lauded the group members for the timely payment which stands at a rate of 82% repayment rate.
The MP also said he will seek amendment of the funds in the National Assembly so that men will also be considered in the kitty.
Nyeri NGAAF Chairman Daniel Gachara who was also present acknowledged that the groups have been investing the funds mostly in agricultural projects, livestock farming and table banking which has quick good returns.
Since inception in year 2014, over Kshs. 33 Million have so far been disbursed to over 400 groups in the constituency.
The beneficiaries also thanked the MP for the timely disbursement of the funds as they will boost food production in this time of El Nino rains.
At the same time, Hon. Wandeto has announced that from the next financial year, Tetu Bursary funds kitty will be increased from Kshs. 40 Million to Kshs. 50 Million.
This he said will be able to cater for most of the needy students in the area.
He said the secondary school day scholars will only be required Kshs. 2,000 each and the rest will be cleared by the NG- CDF.
“This will also boost the school population in our constituency” Wandeto added.
The MP also thanked the constituents for their cooperation which led to him being ranked position 8 out of 290 nationally.
He said the win is due to the many good initiatives which have been started by his office to empower locals.
