The Nairobi Hospital Board has broken its silence amid mounting scrutiny over internal wrangles and a high-profile criminal investigation, assuring Kenyans of uninterrupted healthcare services and a renewed commitment to public trust.
In a press briefing held at the hospital’s amphitheatre on Tuesday, newly appointed Board Chair Barcley Onyambu addressed the growing concerns surrounding the institution’s governance. He reassured the public that the hospital remains steadfast in its mission to deliver quality healthcare despite recent challenges.
“Leadership confidence is vital to any institution, particularly one central to the health of the community,” Onyambu stated. “The recent reports on integrity and leadership are isolated and do not detract from our focus. The Board continues to work cohesively, guided by a strong leadership team and a commitment to shared values.”
The remarks come as The Nairobi Hospital faces an ongoing investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The probe, which began with a dramatic raid at the hospital, has raised questions about patient data confidentiality and governance practices. While the High Court has issued a stay on the investigation and granted anticipatory bail to Board members, the situation has sparked public concern.

Onyambu expressed confidence in these changes, stating, “We believe that the changes we have made will accelerate our momentum towards institutional excellence.”
The hospital has also been grappling with internal disputes in recent months, including controversial suspensions of medical personnel and power struggles within its governance structure. These issues have led to public outcry and calls for a leadership overhaul. Despite these challenges, Onyambu maintained that key measures are already in place to ensure business continuity and protect core services from disruption.
