The New Democrats (TND) party national Organizing Secretary Benjamin Gakuru has welcomed the move by President William Ruto to dissolve his Cabinet.
In a press statement, Gakuru termed President Ruto’s move as a bold step that is aligned to the demands of the citizens of Kenya.
On Thursday, the Head of State dissolved the entire Cabinet, retaining Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. Mudavadi also doubles up as the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs.
Among those who were axed from the Cabinet includes Attorney General Justin Muturi.
Gakuru said TND believes in the social, economic and political gains made by Kenyans under the guidance of the 2010 Constitution.
“TND party wishes to congratulate President William Ruto for reading the mood in the public and dissolving the Cabinet. By the President listening to the voices of Kenya’s young populace and all Kenyans in general, we feel that the country is headed towards the right direction,” he said.
The Organizing Secretary urged the President to strictly adhere to the assurance he made while dissolving the Cabinet so as to move the country forward.
“Our appeal to the President now is to make good on his promise of consulting widely while picking new members of his Cabinet. It is our prayer that the next Cabinet will be constituted of men and women of integrity. People with a track record of professionalism in their backgrounds,” Gakuru said.
He said the new Cabinet should not only adhere to the Constitution but also reflect the face of Kenya.
“For the young Kenyans to achieve their aspirations as patriotic citizens of a modern State, we beseech the President not be swayed by parochial political interest in reconstituting his Cabinet,” Gakuru said.
“We owe it to Kenya’s GenZ to now get it right for the sake of the future of our great republic. We congratulate the young Kenyans for displaying modern day patriotism to their country,” he added.
