USAID and Isiolo county government evaluates Nawiri projects

The County Government of Isiolo in partnership with USAID – Nawiri will be undertaking a three days community engagement forum in Merti town for fact finding mission to establish  the progress and challenges encountered  during the past three years of  implementation of Nawiri funded projects.

In the year 2019, the Isiolo County Government under the leadership of Dr Mohamed Kuti launched a five year program worth Sh8.6B which was aimed at reducing levels of persistent acute malnutrition in Isiolo and Marsabit counties.

Speaking in Merti yesterday, the Chief Officer for Public Service and County Administration Mustaffa Wachu said that there was need to engage the community as it is a pivotal part of the entire project, being the recipients of the various services over the 5 year period.

“Nawiri  project is aimed at reducing the levels of malnutrition in the community and therefore, kindly  be free to contribute on the success and challenges you could have noticed during the implementation of the Nawiri project since your response will help the organisation in coming up with an appropriate way forward during the remaining years” Mustaffa said.

The Engagement forum’s deliberations will be based on most of the interventions funded by Nawiri  and implemented by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) among them, drought Interventions in the water and Livestock sector, Cash transfers and  Graduation model.

Nawiri Office Representative Thomas  Musyoki confirmed that the officials will be  having field visit to cash transfer beneficiaries, Gradution  Approach HHs and   Sharia Compliant Groups under the Saving Internal Lending Community (SILC) model which is a livelihood intervention aimed at sustainably reducing acute mulnutrition among vulnerable population.

However, members of the community agreed that the projects which had been implemented in transparent manner have greatly contributed to the improvement of their livelihood  citing the declining levels of malnutrition  and improvement of sanitation standards in Merti.

Different community representatives among them spiritual leaders e.g  Imams , Sheiks and provincial administration were  involved .
