What Works? Human-Nature Submission

Worth Noting:

  • Ninety per cent of these activities are human centered, and about fifty per cent of the total population is aware of these environmental hazards in relations to the stated above. The only problem is, most us tends to mind their own business until lives are lost or infrastructure damage is when we are able to condemn some of these activities whereas one has just been engaging in climate injustice activities around us but we are just ignorant and silent. Remember, climate change has a long-term impact.
  • Additionally, leaders should have the ability to anticipate and manage crises. In the few days we have received the rains, lives have been lost, properties destroyed and infrastructure damaged.

Not long ago, Kenya faced a drought related calamity between 2020 and 2022 making the then president to declare the calamity a national disaster. The same is evidenced since the declaration of El-nino late last year (2023) by the weather specialists up to date. The climate impact has turned into a massacre, lives are lost and property destroyed. In the process of governmental interventions, we should learn to take precautions since prevention is better than cure.

First and foremost, we should abolish the philosophy of “every man for himself, God for us all.” Most of these climate change calamities are environmental degradation related. For instance, deforestation, pollution, greenhouse gases emission, land filling, natural occurrences, just to mention a few.

Ninety per cent of these activities are human centered, and about fifty per cent of the total population is aware of these environmental hazards in relations to the stated above. The only problem is, most us tends to mind their own business until lives are lost or infrastructure damage is when we are able to condemn some of these activities whereas one has just been engaging in climate injustice activities around us but we are just ignorant and silent. Remember, climate change has a long-term impact.

Additionally, leaders should have the ability to anticipate and manage crises. In the few days we have received the rains, lives have been lost, properties destroyed and infrastructure damaged. One way in which loss and damage from climate change arise is when efforts to avoid or minimise climate impacts through mitigations and adaptation fail. This raises concerns about the ability of our leaders to anticipate and manage increasing complex climate risks.

Although some notable adaptation progress has been made, additional adaptation gaps remain when taking into account the full complexity of climate risks and the potential for maladaptation. In Kenya, the adverse and cascading impacts and disasters have eroded livelihoods and coping capabilities. Flooding has resulted in greater loss of lives and damage of property than other natural hazards for instance, Mai Mahiu deaths and destructions.

Responding to the cascading risks and impacts of climate crisis requires a transdisciplinary cross scale and cross sector approach. Understanding, identifying and attributing cascading effects to specific climate shocks and stressors is key to developing ways to build adaptive capacity and resilience. However, it’s very likely that the cost of adaptation will be much higher that the anticipated.

Furthermore, we should be submissive to the nature demands. Yes, we are the problem because based on our general activities we are against nature developing and thieving as its supposed to be. Now, what must we do? We should ensure that we strive to attain the nature demands. For instance, reducing greenhouse gases emissions, planting more trees, reduce pollutions, adoption and use of organic materials in the agricultural sectors and finally, understanding the role of personal integrity in human-nature submission.

Finally, the adoption of new unique mindset: As one of the famous scientist Albert Einstein once stated, “we cannot solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when created them.” With the rapid technological advancements and modernization lets us be motivated to come up with innovative sustainable solutions to climate change.

When all of these are collectively encouraged and put in place by us, this will result into a peaceful coexistence between human and nature. Thereby, there will be immense reduction in the occurrence of nature related calamities hence leading to the enjoyment of most of our rights.
