Most parts of our country have been drought stricken. This most recently made the head of state to declare it as a national disaster. Available relief food could run into shortage and given the dilapidated economic crisis we are in as a country; GMO’S could be one of the best alternative we should opt to.

However the lift of the ban on the GMO’s is an ordeal that is sitting on the fence. Therefore it remains a debatable matter by the responsible authorities who will consequently give a comprehensive opinion and the last stance. The benefits of GMO’s outweigh the demerits.

For instance GMO’s seeds are modified to scientifically resist pests and diseases resulting into high production of food. GMO could also be a considerable strategy to bring down the cost of commodities such as maize flour, Sugar just to mention but a few.

Furthermore there will be enough food for famine stricken families and extra for business ventures thanks to GMO. Scientists have dismissed claims that GMO’s cause cancer and instead argued that they help in fighting this terminal illness. That is to say GMO’s can fight aflatoxin in grains which is one of major causes of cancer in Kenya. The good news is that GMO’s in Kenya are limited for research and not yet in the market. So keep your appetite high and watch!
