The out dated belief that one only becomes a woman by undergoing circumcision is still the fuel that propels the FGM practice up to date.
The practice has great health effect on both women and younggirls. Some of the health effects are; Severe pain, shock, haemorrhage, urine retention, tetanus infection, ulceration of genital region and injury to adjacent tissues, fever, septicemia and many other effects.
FGM has long term complications and also affects the victims psychologically.
We risk the life of the women and young girls by condoning the practice.
Let’s wake up from our slumber of ignorance and help save the women and girls from this malicious act by saying NO to FGM and by reporting such cases to relevant authorities. The government should also put in place strict laws concerning the same so as to help stop FGM.
