Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi yesterday toured the ultra modern Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) owned Chai Trading Warehouses in Miritini Mombasa.
During the tour, the CS applauded the role the company is playing in reducing warehousing costs for thousands of small scale tea farmers who are affiliated to KTDA. The CS was accompanied by among others, KTDA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) WIlson Muthaura and Chai Trading leadership led by Board Member Eric Chepkwony.
Meanwhile, hundreds of pupils who completed the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) last year are expected to apply for KTDA sponsored Fanikisha Maisha na KTDA National Tea Scholarship 2023. Applications for the scholarship are open to needy and bright learners from KTDA growing areas.
The tea growing farmers agency is expected to sponsor at least one pupil from each of the 71 factories which it manages.
Those seeking the scholarship must have attained at least 350 marks during last year’s KCPE.
The pupils who are interested are required to collect application forms from the tea factories or in the alternative download from KTDA or KTDA Foundation websites, appropriately fill them and return to their respective Factory Unit Managers by Friday next week.
