writing

Worth Noting:
- Currently, the world is more informed and reformed where most of the integration is done digitally. Writing organizations have flooded and taken over the social media platforms, posits Nyamwange,A. a literary scholar and social commentator. ‘Facebook, WordPress among others are playing the expected roles to both rooted and upcoming writers across the globe.’
- Writing for the sake of it cannot build a writer. He needs food, creative writing workshops, professional editing, publishing and marketing of his works for him to cut a niche. He has to support his family and friends to fit in the normal community. Otherwise most people will view him as an idler who adds no value to society. This will lead to loneliness, isolation and depression which is a dangerous direction.
There is this common question that is always pointed out during public and both private interviews, cliché. “Why did you start writing?”.
Some statistics say that those people who turn out to be writers are mostly triggered by loneliness. According to some, it’s all about talent.
The likes of Ngugi wa Thiong’o, Chimamanda Ngozi, Wole Soyinka, Buchi Emechita, Bessie Head,Alan Paton, Ben Okri,Simon Gikandi among others are known for writing that reveals the face of Africa. Writers have a culture of defending with words and defeating all odds. Recently, an ex-prisoner, Thomas Nyandoro wrote a dramatic story that will soon be a movie. The story makes all words in that book smile and dance.
WRITERS’ DO
Currently, the world is more informed and reformed where most of the integration is done digitally. Writing organizations have flooded and taken over the social media platforms, posits Nyamwange,A. a literary scholar and social commentator. ‘Facebook, WordPress among others are playing the expected roles to both rooted and upcoming writers across the globe.’
According to the upcoming writers, the social media has helped them gain more confidence in writing . In addition to that, it allows them to get links to what’s happening at specific places like workshops, performing grounds and so on.
WRITERS CHALLENGES CHECK
Plagiarism has traumatized most writers across the globe. It’s one of the factors that pushes writers to the wall to give up after the extreme tolerance. Other than that, its the critics given by the audience. Some are good while some are way bad, heavy to hold. For instance, when an upcoming writer is negatively criticized, the writer degrades himself or herself and chooses to pull out. Another common reason is lack of enough doughnuts, whereby writers don’t have good writing tips as expected. Well, hard work pays and the world should understand that writing is also a career and needs to be invested in. This is hardly the case in Africa where serious readership is nonexistent. Most people in Africa chase their next meal to seat down and enjoy a good book.
WHAT TO DO
Supporting talents not only writing but also music, sports among others should be number one to do list in every nation. Creative minds are always available, born and yet to be born.
Nyamwange, A. a commentator from Kenya claims that it’s repeated writing, editing accompanied with a large appetite of extensive reading and analytical skills that builds a writer. ‘ A writer always needs a third eye. The one of their audience in order to reach and touch them effectively. These are his customers.’
Writing for the sake of it cannot build a writer.
Otherwise it’s important that every African nation puts in place mechanism to support writing. It will not only promote their heritage but place them in the global literary map. It will attract new ideas, writers and voices on the African continent.
