To HE Deputy President
Hon. Rigathi Gachagua
Ref: Request To Serve In Executive Office of Deputy President
Dear his Excellency the Deputy President of Kenya, it is my sincere hope that this letter finds you in good health and high spirit. I am one of your diehard supporters. The purpose of writing to you Sir is two-fold. First, it is to request you to consider me for a job. I believe in your leadership.
As you can see in the articles attached, I have been fronting you as the most suitable leader from Mt Kenya to replace former President Uhuru Kenyatta as the region’s king-pin. I have also been calling out your critics to respect you while reminding them your position is entrenched in the constitution.
Secondly, I want to bring to your attention that I had written to President William Samoei Ruto. I’m yet to receive a response. Your Excellency Sir, I want to share with you about the content of my letter to the President. I started by making a brief introduction.
My name is Joseph Mutua Ndonga and I’m a writer and political analyst. I’m a Kikuyu and my ancestral home is in Mathioya, Muranga County. My parents migrated to Nyandarua district and this is where I was born.
My father was a squatter and we used to live on land belonging to his elder sister. At some point, he managed to buy one share of land in Laikipia County and we migrated there.
My parents [both deceased] were casual laborers and they were occasionally involved in domestic quarrels. We, the siblings, would bore the burden.
A time came when they separated for a long time and this led to all of us dropping out of primary school. As the first born, I would not allow this to derail/ disrupt my education.
President Moi Paid My School Fees
One day I opted to travel all the way to the home of then President Daniel Arap Moi in Kabarak. The purpose of this visit was to plead with the head of state to pay my school fees. This is because I used to listen to his speeches on KBC radio that his government was committed to helping needy students from poor families. I also used to read this in the old newspapers that I come across.
At Kabarak, I was not alone. I met other people who were there trying their luck of meeting the President. But of all these people, it is only me who was a student. It was not easy to stop him along the Eldama Ravine road.
Kabarak High School Principal
When I travelled there for the second time, some security officers and workers, who were stationed there, advised me. Ndonga, your problem is genuine. Go and see the principal of Kabarak High School Joseph Kimetto. He is a good man and we are sure he will help you to meet the president.
Good Advice
This was the best advice. When I entered his office, the principal welcomed me and gave time enough time to explain myself. I have heard your story. Sorry for what you have gone through. I promise you that this will now be a thing of the past.
I will present your case to the President and I will go there with you. For now, the President has gone back to Nairobi. I will accommodate you at my home [a neighbor of president] until this coming weekend when he returns.
Though I accompanied him, the principal presented my problems. After this, the President told me. I’m going to cater for your school fees and accommodation because I want you to go to a boarding primary school.
Michinda Boarding Primary School
The principal will get you a good school and will be briefing me about your progress and what you need. Mr Kimetto settled on Michinda Boarding School in Elburgon where I joined class 7.
Kimeto’s sacking
One year later, the principal differed with the President and he was shown the door out of Kabarak. This was a big blow to me because he was a bridge between me and the head of state. My efforts to reach the President so that I can remind and request him to continue paying my fees did not bore any fruits. This story is long. However, allow me to say this. I managed to soldier on, though with a lot of difficulties, and finally sat for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education [KCSE].
ICC Trial
His Excellency Sir, I worked closely with one of your top-notch legal adviser Abraham Korir Singoei [now CS, Foreign Affairs] during the International Criminal Court [ICC] trial. The good lawyer came to know me because of the articles I was writing in the print media in your defense together with Uhuru Kenyatta. Hardly a week passed without denouncing the charges leveled against you and reminding Kenyans which I strongly believed were politically instigated.
ICC Prosecutor Ultimate Goal
The ultimate goal was to block you from running for political office. This would have helped ODM leader Raila Odinga to overcome the threats you posed to him and probably easily ascend to power with ease. The plot to file these trump-up charges had been hatched by him [Raila] and the ICC prosecutor Moreno Ocampo. The duo was also working at the behest of their foreign masters.
My fallout with civil society
At the time, I used to work with the civil society and at some point I now become a marked man. This is because I had refused to read the blue-eyed script. We know most of these groupings were supporting the candidature of Raila Odinga.
Besides, the push to have you detained or jailed resonated well with the wishes of their pay masters, leading foreign donors based in US and other countries in Europe.
As a result of this, I lost my job. I was unceremoniously kicked out of Youth Agenda and my membership in three NGOS-NCEC/NCA, CREAW and KHRC-was abruptly terminated. None of the top leaders of the groupings wanted to be associated with me.
Parrot of UhuRuto presidency
I still remember what Maina Kiai told me when I stumbled on him face to face along the corridors of The Supreme Court during the hearing of the presidential election petition filed by Raila in 2013. Ndonga, you have become a parrot of President Uhuru Kenyatta and then his Deputy William Ruto.
This would not change my position. I continued to support and publicize the visionary leadership of your administration in all spheres of public life. I had no doubt that the Dr Willy Mutunga-led Supreme Court would strike out the petition filed by ODM leader Raila Odinga.
My earlier prayers had been answered when the judges of ICC dismissed a case seeking to bar you from running. The judges rightly stated: One of key anchor of Rome Statute that created the ICC is the principle of innocence until when proved guilty. For this reason, they allowed you to run.
Executive Office of Political Adviser
At one point, the Office of the top Political Adviser in the presidency recognized my potential. After the efforts to get me a job at Presidential Strategic Communication Unit [PSCU] failed to materialize, the office opted to retain me. I started to receive a monthly stipend.
Termination of Stipend
HE Excellency, with due respect, allow me to bring this to your attention. The stipend was terminated after the outgoing President handed over the instrument of power to you. This would not, however, stop me from pushing the agenda of your UDA/Kenya Kwanza government.
Since then, I have been going through a lot of difficulties. Sometimes my family sleeps hungry. I’m not able to buy all the medications I need to stabilize my diabetic condition and pay rent. During the Christmas and New Year Festivities, I was not able to travel to the rural home to cerebrate together with my siblings. I continued to push the agenda of your government [please see the attached articles] amid threats from the Landlord to evict me. At one point, I resorted to selling my house hold goods.
ICC Assembly of State Parties
His Excellency Sir, during the ICC trial PS Korir had hosted me twice in his office located at Harambee Annex. In one of them, our agenda focused on the meeting of the Assembly of State Parties [ASP] that was scheduled to be held in The Hague in Netherland. I had volunteered to attend and be one of those representing Kenya . I was however upbeat when the ICC acquitted you before this meeting. I prayed and thanked God for hearing my prayers and those of other Kenyans who stood with you.
Prayer for a job
I have been hustling since i was hounded out of the civil society. This is my prayer to you Sir. Please help me get a job. Apart from writing, I’m good in doing research and analyzing matters of national importance.
The anchors of the two Kikuyu vernacular stations-Weega TV and Githima TV-have been hosting me every week. I’m ready to use this knowledge to further the course of your administration.
Besides articulating your agenda locally, I can also serve as press attaché. I fully understand the role of attaché if posted to any country. I pray our good lord to continue blessing you.
Yours
Joseph Mutua Ndonga
