Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua praying facing Mt Kenya

A few days, a video of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua while praying at Mount Kenya was posted in social media. I watched it. The DP’s prayers were mainly dedicated to praying for the Nation and President William Ruto.
This happened when the Cabinet retreat was taking place at Fairmont Mt Kenya Safari Club in Nyanyuki.
The inaugural retreat had been convened by the President and being his Principal Assistant the DP was supposed to help him in coordination and chairing the crucial clustered and plenary sessions.
In his opening remarks, the president’s message to the top state officials-cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries and council of economic advisers- was clear.
They were not there for joyriding and luxury ventures.
Kenyans gave us a job. We are here to craft a strategy outlining practical measures of addressing the myriad of challenges facing them.
Each one of you took the oath of office and you have no option but to live up to vows you made.
The call is to provide a servant and visionary leadership.
More importantly, Dr Ruto took this opportunity to reorganize and reassign roles particularly to three senior most leaders, namely the Deputy President, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Attorney General Justin Muturi.
Many interpreted this as well thought out move meant to avert friction.
While noting the eyes of Kenyans were trained on the President and himself, Gachagua noted.

As a show of respect to the President, Gachagua did not miss any session.
This explains why he went to the Mountain at night.
He prayed God to grant our President good health and wisdom.
He also prayed for our nation and end of hunger and starvation.
I have been begging for food to feed millions of Kenyans. God of mercies, I pray you to forgive those who have sinned and bring this to an end.
He added: I have been begging even from our colonizers. This is not a good thing but I have to do it because we do not want to our people to die.
The President, who assigned me this work, is also having sleepless nights.

As a born again Christian, allow me to say this. I would not have expected to hear some people faulting DP move.
But alas, this is Kenya where everything is politicized.
Listen to some of the comments posted on Facebook and other social media outlets.
Gachagua had to gone to pray gods of Kikuyus at Mount Kenya. ‘This showed he did not believe in God’.
We want to tell him he is not the DP of Kikuyus. He is the DP of Kenya.
Now that he has shown us praying gods of our ancestors is the way to go, we hope he will honor invitation to come and ‘pray’ with us our gods.
Another one posed. Why did he went with a troop of bloggers and cameramen?
I want to remind this person. The Bible teaches us to use our brain and knowledge in whatever we do.
Gachagua status changed when he become the DP.
So, you would not have expected him to go there alone. I’m sure some of those accompanying him were his friends and others were soldiers of Jesus Christ just like him.
Again, no one is supposed to judge another one.
For Gachagua, it is only God who knows whether his prayers reached Him.
