- Your art was it a hobby or passion?
At first writing was just a hobby which developed into a passion. This is something that l do whenever l have the inspiration to write. Writing was also therapeutic because it made available a means of healthily processing the pressures of everyday life and translating them into something worth aspiring to.
- Who or what was your inspiration?
The inspiration to write came from my background; from the need to share my life experiences with others as well as inspiring those around me. I wanted to be a voice that people can relate to. I aspired to be someone who could give someone out there the gift of a frame of reference for dreams for which they may not have had context.
- Did you make enough in the beginning?
I have received amazing feedback from people of various age groups who resonate with various aspects of my craft and my story. My aim is to use my vigor and energy as a youth while not neglecting the wisdom and sage counsel of those ahead of me. This kind of thinking informs the way I want my craft to appeal to various age groups and generations without diluting the reality that I am a youth. I want to be as trans-generational as I can possibly be.
- Who loves your craft, is it youth or all ages?
People from all age group love my work because in my group l has managed to captivate all my readers in particular way. Everyone has something that they can relate to in their personal lives from the book. Besides the book talks about resilience and overcoming rejections, limitations and life circumstances which we all face at some point in life.
- Have you reached more of the African market or you are just local?
I have reached the international market and I am also growing my brand; focusing on being locally relevant and contextually inclined to the needs of the local community and market while seeking to uphold internationally astute standards of excellence.
- Any highlights?
The major issues being addressed in this book are themes of resilience and overcoming one’s seeming limitations and environmental challenges. This is a book that highlights lessons learned in the journey with a view to giving people from all walks of life the gift of perspective and a point of reference. I wrote this book to employ the specificity and nuance of my own life’s narrative to give context and motivate people who have experienced similar hardships by serving as a grounded and relatable point of reference.
The book addresses the importance of taking charge of your narrative; not simply letting life ‘happen’ to you but being proactively engaged with your life. No one is coming to change your life.
- Does Zimbabwe support arts?
On one hand, Zimbabwe supports art such as the music industry more than the writing industry. Moreover the culture of reading has not yet fully developed among Zimbabweans so it’s becomes challenging for them to render support by buying books. There is also a lack of global spotlight and recognition among Zimbabwean authors regardless of publishing great work! Apart from this, on the other hand, I have equally received amazing support from my Zimbabwean family and friends for which I remain grateful !
