The word “nusu mkate” is more than familiar in the ears of the Kenyans. Although the outside meaning of the word is very weak, the context of its application in Kenyans politics or government is very powerful. Most of us came across the word nusu mkate form of government in the era of Kibaki Raila leadership; this was after the post election violence of the year 2007/2008 where Raila controlled half the government as the prime minister and Kibaki ruling the other part as the president.
In the era of uhuruto, the word become more popular as it was used to criticize the opponents as the lovers of divide and rule the country. Although the politicians claim inclusivity, equity and balance, their actions largely contradicts them.
Therefore, there can’t be a prediction of normal government in Kenya, following the flow of how government operates, take example of Uhurutos Last term of government. Where the president and his deputy perform more different task at different times than the way Kenyans expected just because of the union between their former rival, Raila odinga with the president.
All these show us how important it is to choose careful as voters. In the upcoming elections, we should be a wake and choose those who can’t divide but unit Kenyans.
