Former President Mwai Kibaki’s elder sister Esther Waitherero is dead.
Waitherero passed away on Wednesday night in her house at Gatuya-ini village near Othaya town.
Family sources said the late Waitherero passed on a few days after falling sick.
She is estimated to have lived for about 115 years.
Her death comes 82 days after the demise of the former Head of State.
Scores of leaders from Othaya led by area Member of Parliament Gichuki Mugambi led in mourning the late Waitherero whom she described as a hand working woman.
Mugambi said the deceased would be remembered for her contribution in raising the former President when he was young.
Others who eulogized the late Waitherero were Nyeri County gubernatorial candidate on The New Democrats (TND) party Dr Thuo Mathenge and Othaya constituency parliamentary candidate on Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party Patrick Ngunjiri.
